Care & Handling

Every Exotic Wood & Epoxy vessel is finished with oil — there is no epoxy coating, no sealant, no varnish. The wood breathes. That is intentional. Here is how to keep your piece looking its best for years to come.

Oil Finish

We finish every piece with oil. For re-oiling at home, we recommend Odies Oil or any food-grade wood oil (food-grade mineral oil works well and is widely available). Apply a small amount with a soft cloth, let it absorb for 15–20 minutes, then wipe away any excess. Re-oil whenever the wood looks dry — typically once or twice a year depending on your climate.

Dry Use Only

All vessels are intended for dry use only. Do not use them to hold liquids, wet food, or anything moist. Do not wash with water. Wipe clean with a dry or barely-damp cloth only.

Vases

Our vases are beautiful with dried stems, branches, or botanicals. If you want to use fresh flowers or water, use a floral insert or liner — we will include one with your purchase. The insert holds the water; the vessel stays dry. Never pour water directly into the vessel.

Humidity

Wood and epoxy respond to their environment. Avoid storing your vessel in high-humidity spaces such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, or unconditioned garages. Pieces in the Foodie Collection (containing real food-based inclusions such as coffee beans, cloves, orange peel, or cabbage) are especially sensitive — store them in a low-humidity environment and keep them away from steam, condensation, and cooking vapors. These inclusions have no preservative treatment of any kind.

Temperature

Avoid rapid temperature changes. Do not move a piece from a cold car trunk directly into a hot room, or place it next to a heat vent, fireplace, or in direct sunlight for extended periods. Gradual, stable temperatures are best. Dramatic swings can stress the wood-epoxy bond over time.

General Tips

  • Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth
  • Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade epoxy color
  • Do not use chemical cleaners, bleach, or abrasive pads
  • Re-oil when the wood looks thirsty
